May 15, 2010

I was cruising down 35w and tried to pass up a car.  All of a sudden I hear some strange whining noise and the car can't get into gear.  I exit the next exit and pull over to the side.  Car can't get into gear so I had to tow it home.  I now have to tear the car apart and find out what's wrong.  I'm thinking it could just be a throw out bearing that came off, but I won't know till I take out the tranny again.  The car makes a clicking noise when the clutch pedal is pressed all the way down.   Cry, me so sad.

Update:  May 20, 2010
Took a couple of hours today and took off the transmission.  To my surprise the flywheel dowel pins broke off and tumbled around the transmission until it caught onto the flywheel and scratched up the whole transmission.  It finally then pushed out a piece of the transmission.  That's the hole I saw when I was taking off the shifter cables.  Here are some pics.

This is a picture of the flywheel.  You can see where the dowel pins broke off.

Does anyone know what could have caused this?  It was a resurfaced flywheel bought from a member on evomn.net

A glimpse of the carnage.  I removed most of the stuff and found this.  Looks like something came loose and bounced around in there.  I'm lucky it wasn't worse.  Time to open this thing up and see what's inside.  This poorly taken picture is from the top of the engine bay.

Dayum!  Isn't this thing still under warranty?  LMK what's up!  Available this Sunday if you need some additional help!  Lemme know!

I don't think Mitsubishi will cover a evo even if all it has is a mbc.  I have way more mods than that.  Hopefully the transmission can be repairable.

Now that I think about it, it might just being your clutch. You are using a sprung hub disc right? They are known for failure especially in high hp cars and driving hard. A full face solid-hub disc clutch is recomended. That's what I had bought for my car (south bend stage 4). I remember reading last year this one guy on 3si was talking about same problems, noise then the car couldn't get in gears. When he checked the tranny, all the springs in the disc were out. You might as well start shopping for a good solid-hub clutch.

you're right about the clutch I have.  I think that's what happened too because there's anothr local evo that has a similar clutch and his springs came out of the clutch too.  Thanks for the heads up.  I will try to see if they will waranty the clutch.

Can't you return the car back to stock, I know it's going to take some work, but it may be worth a shot to get the whole thing covered anyway?

I'll look into that depending on the condition of the transmission.  If it's repairable then I'll just repair it.  If it's a whole new transmission I'll try for warranty.
