Update posted.  Anyone know what could have caused this?  I think the transmission is repairable.  I now have to get a new flywheel and I might as well replace the clutch while I'm at it.

wow, look at the hole in that thing. pretty scary. Yah the clutch looks fine. Something bad must have went wrong for that piece of the flywheel to get off.

I'm thinking about fixing my 5th gear synchro but I don't want to spend that much.  It'll probably be somewhere around $250 for a new 5th gear synchro and to weld the hole in the transmission.  I'm looking at getting the act hdg6 kit and a fidanza flywheel but that's about $800 for all of that.  Plus I have to get transmission fluid and some gaskets.  I'll probably take it slow and get parts as I go.  Hopefully it will be running in less than a month.

Sorry to hear about the car. Why do you like the act kit? I don't know much about evo clutches. I've heard stories about the twin disk clutches shuttering when you shift gears.

Sorry to hear about the car. Why do you like the act kit? I don't know much about evo clutches. I've heard stories about the twin disk clutches shuttering when you shift gears.

I think the main reason I chose the ACT is because it is the cheapest clutch out there that can withstand my setup.  I really can't justify spending $1400 on a twin when I'm only making 400whp or so.  The ACT HDG6 that I'm planning to get should hold 500whp just fine; I know evos that are making 600whp++ with the same clutch.

Here's a post on a triple that exploded taken from evolutionm.net.  It sure can happen to a twin also.

Quote from: CicioSTi;7376602
So during a 2nd gear mid boost pull at about 8k rpm my clutch exploded into pieces and basically grenaded the engine bay! Shep trans, triple disk clutch, intercooler, radiator and more are all shot!

Initial details: When this happened I was on 35psi which on my setup is a little over 700hp.  The turbo is a 42r, and there was only 400 miles on the clutch.  I am waiting to find out what the clutch company is going to do before I say too much.

Edit UPDATE: This was a triple disk carbon Exedy clutch!  I sent the clutch to Exedy for them to inspect it.  They were unsure of what could have caused the problem, either the clutch bolts were not tightened properly or could have been a heat issue.  Either way they decided to give me a brand new clutch for free!  Full warranty!  I was pretty excited to hear that they were going to back up there product.  Customer service was awesome!  I would buy Exedy again after this experience!

Shep said that he has some spare cases around so he is putting all new syncros in the tranny and slapping it in a new case for me.  The intercooler is fixed, radiator will need to be replaced, what I thought was going to cost me 5000$ + is turning out to be not that bad!

Good times:

Yeah, I saw that but that's what I had in my car.  I want an HDG6, plus I can get a brand new one with an OEM TOB for the same price.
